The very existence of unions is political.

Politics is a battlefield, and working families have the most to lose. 

The working class is the backbone of this nation. This country was built by the hands of working families, and our democracy begins and ends with working people.  

We work together, we bargain together and we vote together. Because as a union, we are stronger when we organize for what we want – good jobs, fair pay and benefits that let us support our families.

We have seen politicians come and go. Sometimes politicians lie to us and sometimes politicians do what they say they will do. Our strength lies in holding those in power accountable.

The Biden/Harris Administration is the most pro-union administration of our lifetimes.

Their record is unparalleled. Since taking office, here is what Vice President Harris has done for us:

  • Led the fight to pass a bipartisan bill that is creating 20,000 new construction jobs every month, putting our members to work for years to come.
  • Joe Biden & Kamala Harris introduced strict "buy American" provisions on federal infrastructure projects. Instead of creating jobs overseas, building materials from steel to electronics to fiber optic cable are all being made in the United States to create jobs for American workers.
  • Protected our wages by mandating Project Labor Agreements on most federal construction projects.
  • Focused on fighting inflation by casting the tie breaking vote to pass the Inflation Reduction Act. Despite a global inflation crisis, the United States economy is again the tip of the spear. American wages are now growing faster than inflation.
  • Ended employer-run apprenticeship programs and invested more than $100 million to strengthen and expand the Registered Apprenticeship Program.
  • Fought tooth and nail for the bold reform we need in federal law by demanding Congress pass the Protecting the Right to Organize Act.
  • Placed workers back in charge at the Department of Labor and the National Labor Relations Board. Kamala Harris cast the tie breaking vote to replace Trump's union-busting attorney at the NLRB with one of our own union sisters. Under this new leadership, the NLRB and DOL are putting workers first. In one ruling, the Biden/Harris NLRB ordered Tito Contractors to pay back $250,000 in stolen wages to a group of workers organizing with IUPAT. In another case brought by the Biden/Harris DOL, 593 IUPAT painters organizing with the IUPAT won $3.6 million in wages stolen by a contractor.

Letter from our General President

Brothers and Sisters,

The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades is proud to endorse Kamala Harris as the Democratic Nominee for President of the United States. 

Vice President Harris has been instrumental in standing up for issues that our members deeply care about since Day One of the Biden-Harris administration. From expanding workers’ rights to organize to protecting the rights of women to ensuring our hard-earned pensions are secured, she has proven herself to be a tireless advocate for economic justice, racial equality, and building a 21st century infrastructure that includes environmental sustainability. Kamala Harris’s vision has been unwavering on the issues that matter most to our union. 

After the events of the past few weeks, especially the divisive tone and policies espoused by the Republican National Convention, the most important political priority for working people is preventing a second term for Donald Trump. There’s no better candidate to keep the anti-worker Trump-Vance ticket and their Project 2025 as far away from the Oval Office as possible than Vice President Harris.

We believe that Kamala Harris’ leadership is essential to ensuring that the gains we have made are not only preserved but expanded upon. The IUPAT proudly supports the historic candidacy of Kamala Harris for President of the United States. We’re confident that she will continue to champion the rights of workers and advance a pro-labor agenda that benefits all Americans, and we look forward to mobilizing our members in the months ahead to make that a reality.
